Crush

A pop can is something I rarely concern myself with as an adult. I open it, drink the contents,
dispose of it. But as a kid I got a lot more out of that can. I'd crush it by standing on its
top then tapping the sides, obsessively bend it back and forth until it broke in half at the
fold, or mash one around each foot then run around making an awful racket.

With Crush, a large scale digital print, I've created an anti-monument for such inconsequential
yet nostalgic stories from our past. The implied scale and brick construction conveys that this
is a lasting testament to an event, but its lack of branding or didactic information denies it
a singular history. This architectural structure, fashioned after a ubiquitous object, creates
a space without a specific memory, and, instead, invites us each to recount our own
